TBD Immersive: Cabaret Rising

One of the most unique products I’ve ever worked on. I was invited to assist on this production for the Tradition Be Damned Immersive Theater company. Directed by Strother Gaines, the company is known for taking over large event spaces and creating one of a kind experience incorporating elements of cabaret, immersive costuming & set dressing and audio visual immersive elements.

Audio Design:

I implemented in my design D.I.Y. and recycled ceiling speakers and small battery operated speakers to keep the budget small and within the aesthetic of the production. I hid tiny speakers in the “train” box car that created the ambient sounds of a train station and whispers of the “insane” performer. This created an eerie and unsettling effect on the audience.

Audio Distribution:

Due to the unique budget constraints on this project, every performer could not receive a microphone. In fact, due to the intervening story lines and expansion of guests across the entire facility, I instead opted to only use the 24 low voltage speakers for ambient noise and mood setting and instead only amplified the stage show since it was the center point of the facility.

The stage itself was set up with a 4 channel mixing board placed with 2 left and right speakers for the audience. 2 microphones were used as back up/ambient mics and 1 main microphone being used by performers and guests.
